We do not have to wait for others to show kindness before we respond. We can take the first step in loving the people we meet, contact, or live with. This love becomes real when we try to understand their needs and respond with patience, trust, perseverance, and generosity. Taking that first step can deepen our spiritual life and bring joy to our hearts.

Jesus, help us take the first step in loving others. Make us attentive to their needs and generous, patient, and faithful in the way we care for them. Amen.
