We all know exercise is good for our health. But can something healthy become unhealthy?
Yes, when we push ourselves too hard or ignore what our body needs.
Exercise without enough recovery can lead to exhaustion and injuries. But there are other things worth considering.
β’ Health conditions. Thyroid problems, heart conditions, and other illnesses may require adjustments to our exercise routine.
β’ Being sick. Having a fever or feeling seriously unwell is a good reason to rest.
β’ Lack of sleep. Intense workouts can put extra strain on an already exhausted body.
β’ Poor hydration. Exercising in hot weather without enough fluids can be dangerous.
β’ Ignoring pain. Normal muscle soreness is different from sharp or worsening pain that may signal an injury.
β’ Obsession. When we feel compelled to exercise despite illness or injury, a healthy habit can become harmful.
Of course, this isn’t an excuse to spend the whole day on the sofa. π
We don’t need to finish every workout completely exhausted. Walking and other simple physical activities count, too.
It’s like music. Playing louder doesn’t make a song better. We need rhythm, balance, and rests between the notes.
The same goes for life. Working harder doesn’t always mean we’re doing better.
Taking care of ourselves also means knowing when to stop.
After all, what’s the point of exercising to become healthy if we’re making ourselves unhealthy along the way?
