Ready or Not

Good intentions can keep us occupied while the world moves along without us.

Patience and procrastination can look the same. Both can look like we’re taking our time. The difference is why we’re doing it.

Imagine a guitarist getting ready for a gig. He keeps polishing his guitar, checking the strings, adjusting the strap, and making sure he looks cool. Meanwhile, the audience is waiting.

An hour passes. The guitar looks fantastic. The audience hasn’t heard a single note.

Finally, the guitarist walks onto the stage, ready to play. Unfortunately, everyone has gone home.

Apparently, the audience didn’t procrastinate when it was time to leave. 😁

Funny, but we do similar things in life.

Patience helps us prepare when we can and wait when we must. Procrastination can wear the same outfit. We keep ourselves busy with little things while the important stuff sits there, waiting for us.

And it’s not always laziness. Fear of failure, uncertainty, or the need to get everything perfect can make even a simple first step feel like a big deal.

But rushing isn’t the answer either. There’s nothing wrong with taking our time when there’s a good reason for it. Being busy doesn’t always mean we’re moving forward, just as waiting doesn’t always mean we’re wasting time.

Patience means knowing why we’re waiting. Procrastination means putting things off even when it’s time to act.

Life doesn’t wait until we’re perfectly ready. We can spend so much time preparing for the right moment that we don’t even notice when it arrives.

Patience helps us make room for that moment. Procrastination can give us reasons to let it pass.
