The Plain and Simple Life of Saint Felix of Nola

A saint’s dull life, lived with meaning.

Felix was a Christian priest who lived in the 3rd century in Nola, Italy, during the early years of the Church. Few details of his life were written down. What remained were accounts of how he lived, remembered by the local community.

These accounts were not miracle stories. They described his daily conduct.

At times, he stayed in other people’s homes because he had no place of his own. He owned little and did not keep possessions.

When someone came to the church hungry, Father Felix would get food from where he was staying, even if that was all he had for the day.

When disputes arose about Church leadership, he did not take part. He continued his priestly duties and did not seek position or authority. When offered higher roles, he declined.

In Nola, he was remembered as someone who kept nothing. He had no possessions to show. When others were in need, he gave what he had.

This was how he chose to live his faith, in ordinary ways, day after day.

Let’s keep learning the saints’ way—day by day.
