World Coconut Day • September 2
“Use your coconut!” is a playful way of saying, “Use your brain!” But when it comes to the coconut fruit, there is a better idea: use it all.
🥥 Coconut water: drinks, vinegar, nata de coco, jelly, and other food products
🥥 Coconut meat: fresh food, gata (coconut milk), coconut cream, oil, dried coconut, flour, sweets, and other food products
🥥 Coconut pulp: flour, food ingredients, animal feed, and other useful products after the coconut meat is squeezed for gata
🥥 Brown skin: oil, animal feed, and other food uses
🥥 Husk: coconut fiber, ropes, mats, brushes, bunot (coconut-fiber scrubber and polisher), baskets, plant-growing material, and fuel
🥥 Hard shell: charcoal, fuel, kitchen items, decorations, crafts, and other useful products
When these parts are used, the coconut fruit does not have to end up as waste. Even what remains after making food or other products can have another use.
The result is a simple idea: one coconut fruit can be used from the inside out, with nothing that needs to be thrown away.
So, no zero-waste coconut. No zero-brain thinking either.
Use your coconut! 😂
