As children, we often have a hero we admire. It could be Spider-Man, Superman, or even Snoopy. We may even imagine becoming a hero ourselves someday.
But admiring heroes does not automatically make us heroes. Without proper guidance, a child can grow up to become the very opposite, even a villain.
Being a hero does not require superpowers. It does not mean wearing a cape, fighting enemies, or fighting for the freedom of a country.
Heroes can be ordinary people.
A teacher who patiently teaches a child.
A doctor who cares for someone in need.
A worker who does an honest day’s work.
A parent who quietly keeps a family together.
Or a person who lives without harming others and does their part to keep peace.
Today is Heroes Day in the Philippines. We don’t need this day only to remember the famous names in history. We can also use it to recognize the good people around us.
Heroism can be as simple as choosing to do good and leaving a little peace behind wherever we go.
Every day is Heroes Day.
Let’s be thankful for the people who make the world a better place, adding their own little notes to a more peaceful and harmonious world.
