Reading is like walking through a crowded market. You pass by everything. Smells, noise, colors, random voices. You cannot stop all of it from reaching your senses. But you still choose what you bring home in your bag.
You may not fully control what ideas enter your mind, but you do control which ones you entertain, which ones you question, and which ones you reject. A book can knock on the door of your mind. You still decide whether to let it in, give it a seat, or send it away.
Writers can “ruin you slowly,” but that only happens if you cooperate. Reading plants seeds. Reflection is the watering. Agreement is the sunlight.
