Torture Still Happens

Some of the world’s deepest wounds are not caused by nature, but by the choices of people.

Torture is often associated with history books or distant wars, but it still happens today. Around the world, people continue to suffer physical and psychological torture in armed conflicts, police custody, prisons, detention centers, and other situations where power is abused. Survivors are left with wounds that may last a lifetime.

While most of us cannot stop torture directly, we can help create a world where it is less likely to happen and where survivors are treated with dignity.

We can all be part of the solution:

• Listen with kindness when survivors choose to share their stories.
• Learn why torture is a violation of human rights.
• Support organizations that help survivors heal and rebuild their lives.
• Speak up against torture and other forms of abuse.
• Support justice for victims and accountability for those responsible.
• Share accurate information to raise awareness.

A musician takes care of an instrument because it creates beauty. Human lives deserve even greater care. Every person carries a voice that should be heard, never silenced by fear or pain.
