The Philippines is preparing for its first liquid-fueled sounding rocket launch from Philippine soil, planned for 2027 in Cagayan.
The project involves PhilSA (Philippine Space Agency), DICT, CEZA, Ascend International Gateway, and Perigee Aerospace, a South Korean space company.
The rocket will carry a locally developed payload of up to 2 kg and reach at least 5 km.
So what does the Philippines actually get from this?
Experience.
Filipino engineers will get hands-on training in rocket design, testing, assembly, and launch operations.
The bigger plan is to develop a commercial spaceport in the Philippines. That could open doors for local aerospace companies, specialized jobs, research, and future launch services.
This one rocket will not make the Philippines a space superpower.
But it is one step toward being able to launch from our own soil.
Not quite the moon. Not orbit. Not yet.
But definitely a step upward. ππ΅π
