Stop Being Too Nice

Some people confuse kindness with surrendering their entire self just to avoid conflict.

A lot of people think “Christian = always soft, always saying yes, always letting people use them.” But surprisingly, that is not the vibe of the Bible. It does not teach people to become human doormats for chaos.

Jesus Himself said:

“Be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.”

That combination matters: wisdom + goodness. Not goodness without clear judgment.

There is also:

“Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Interesting part? “As yourself.” That means we are included in the care too. It does not mean destroying ourselves while other people become abusive.

Jesus Christ Himself was kind, but not a people-pleaser. He knew how to:

• say “No”
• walk away from toxic crowds
• call out hypocrisy
• flip tables in the temple

The Bible also never says to be too trusting. In Proverbs, there are repeated warnings about deceitful people, manipulators, and fools. Wisdom in the Bible feels like a streetlight in a dark alley. Being good alone is not enough. We also need awareness.

There is a difference between:

• kind = loving and merciful
• overly kind without boundaries = easy to exploit

Real goodness is not weakness. It is controlled strength. Like a quiet song with heavy lyrics underneath it. Calm on the surface. Strong at the core.

Sometimes kind people become victims because they are afraid of hurting others, disappointing others, or looking “bad.” But even saints and biblical figures knew when to walk away, close doors, or speak firmly when needed.

Not every good heart is supposed to become background music for somebody else’s bad behavior.

So the message is not: “Do not be kind.”

It is closer to: “Do not let evil use your kindness against you.”
