International Literacy Day

A worn book in a child’s hands becomes more than pagesβ€”it’s the start of a stronger future. International Literacy Day reminds us that the smallest lessons can light the road ahead.

The Road to a Stronger Future

Somewhere out there, a kid walks to school with nothing but an old, worn-out book in his hands. No gadgets, no comfort, no attention. Just words on paperβ€”yet those words carry a promise.

On September 8, 2025β€”International Literacy Day, the world is reminded of this truth. This year’s theme, β€œPromoting Literacy for a Sustainable Future,” says it all. Literacy isn’t just reading and writingβ€”it’s freedom, it’s voice, it’s hope. For kids growing up in poverty, a single book can become a key to breaking the cycle, a light that guides them to a life where choices are bigger than survival.

When a child discovers learning, the change doesn’t stop with him. It reaches his family, his community, and eventually the world he helps build. A stronger future starts with the smallest lessons.

The Birth of Mary

The Bible does not mention the birth of Mary, but early Christian writings and Church tradition tell the story of Joachim and Anne, who were blessed with a daughter after years of prayer. The Church later set her birthday on September 8, nine months after the feast of the Immaculate Conception.

Based on the Protoevangelium of James and Church Tradition

Long ago, there was a couple, Joachim and Anne. They had no children, and it made them very sad. One day, an angel appeared to Anne and said:

β€œDon’t be sad. God has heard your prayer. You will have a daughter, and the world will know her.”

In time, Anne gave birth to a baby girl. They named her Mary, and their home was filled with joy. When she was still young, her parents brought her to the Temple, offering her fully to God. From then on, she lived close to Him, prepared for the mission only she could carry.

Blessed Birthday, Mama Mary! πŸ’™

πŸ“Œ Note: This story is not in the Bible. It comes from a blend of:

1. Protoevangelium of James (c. 150 AD) – early Christian writing on Mary’s parents and childhood.

2. Sacred Tradition – the Church’s teaching handed down through the centuries.

3. Liturgical Calendar – her birthday celebrated on September 8, nine months after the Immaculate Conception.
