Santo Niño—God Chose to Be Small

Faith began with a child.

Santo Niño is the Child Jesus, a devotion centered on Jesus Christ as a child. In the Philippines, this devotion stands for a faith that is simple yet deeply strong. The image looks small, but the message carries weight.

The devotion arrived in 1521, through an image given to Queen Juana in Cebu. Since then, it has stayed alive not just because of tradition or festival energy, but because of one clear idea: God chose to come small. He came gently, and stayed close.

That is why many Filipinos turn to the Santo Niño when life feels messy. Faith does not begin big. It begins with trust. With a childlike heart. With surrender, even when the next step is unclear.

The image is small, but the courage it teaches is huge.
