World Environmental Health Day β’ September 26
Science does not stay in laboratories. We can use what it has taught us right where we live.
Safe drinking water and properly handled food help keep us from getting sick. Proper waste disposal keeps garbage out of streets and waterways. Removing standing water gives mosquitoes fewer places to breed.
Clean toilets, clear drainage, and sanitary shared spaces matter too. So does the air. Smoke from burning garbage and cigarettes, vehicle exhaust, and other pollution can reach the people around us.
During hot days, drinking enough water, staying in the shade or a cool place, and taking breaks can protect us from too much heat.
When we see leaking sewage, overflowing garbage, dirty water, heavy smoke, or other hazards, reporting them can prevent bigger problems.
These are simple things, but science helps us understand why they matter.
We do not need to be scientists to stand with science. We just need to put what we know into practice.
