The Beer Didn’t Know These Facts

Beer is one of the world’s oldest alcoholic drinks. It is usually brewed from grains such as barley, along with water, yeast, and, in most modern beers, hops. Today, beer comes in thousands of styles enjoyed around the world.

🍻 Beer is older than written history. People were brewing beer as early as 11,000 BC, while writing did not appear until around 3400 BC. Maybe everyone was having such a good time that nobody remembered to write anything down… until someone finally sobered up. 🍺😂

💰 Beer was once part of a worker’s pay. In ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt, some workers received beer as part of their wages. Imagine asking for a raise and your boss says, “Sure. Here’s two more mugs.” 🍺🤣

🔥 Some beers are stronger than many spirits. Snake Venom clocks in at a staggering 67.5% alcohol by volume (ABV). At that point, it’s probably introducing itself as whiskey. 🍺😅

🚀 Beer has gone to space. Scientists have studied barley seeds that traveled in space to see if brewing ingredients could one day be grown beyond Earth. Yes, astronauts float… but not because of beer. 🍺😆

⛪ Monks helped improve brewing. During the Middle Ages, European monasteries refined brewing methods that are still used today. Proof that patience, practice, and maybe a tiny taste test can go a long way. 🍺😄

🍺 Beer foam has a purpose. It helps keep aromas in and slows oxidation, which helps preserve flavor. So don’t blame the bartender. The foam isn’t stealing your beer. It’s protecting it. 🍺🤭

🎵 One of the oldest beer recipes is in a hymn. An ancient Sumerian hymn to Ninkasi, the goddess of beer, also contains one of the earliest known brewing recipes… if you can still catch the right lyrics after drinking all that beer. 🍺😜

🌬️ Some beers use wild yeast. Traditional Belgian lambic beers ferment with naturally occurring yeast and bacteria from the air, giving them their unique taste. Basically, Mother Nature said, “Cheers!” 🍺🤪
