July: A Month to Listen, Protect, Create, and Prepare

The calendar says they are separate. Their message says otherwise.

July gathers a surprising collection of observances that, at first glance, seem to belong in different worlds. Faith stands beside health, art, and environmental action. Yet together they tell one story about stewardship, responsibility, and care for one another.

Throughout the month, we are invited to reflect on different ways of caring for life and the world around us:

The Month of the Precious Blood of Jesus reminds us of the value and dignity of every human life.

Plastic Free July encourages us to reduce waste and become better stewards of the environment.

World Watercolor Month celebrates creativity, imagination, and the arts that enrich human experience.

UV Safety Awareness Month, Sarcoma Awareness Month, and Nutrition Month remind us that caring for life also means protecting our health through prevention, awareness, and healthy living.

Disability Pride Month celebrates inclusion and recognizes disability as part of human diversity rather than a measure of human worth.

World Listening Month invites us to rediscover the increasingly rare art of listening to people, communities, and the natural world.

National Disaster Resilience Month encourages preparedness, cooperation, and readiness before emergencies arrive.

Perhaps that is July’s invitation: listen carefully, protect what matters, create beauty, and prepare wisely for the future.

Different observances, one shared message: a better future is built not by one grand gesture, but by many small acts of care repeated every day.

April Keeps a Low Profile

April carries more than it shows. You only see it if you stop long enough to look.

April doesn’t shout. It teaches us how to notice. People. Pain. Progress. Even the world we walk on.

April carries many observances, but they don’t compete. They point in one direction. We learn how to care, then we actually do something about it.

Different observances, one direction:

• Some struggles are not visible: Autism, Parkinson’s disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Limb Loss and Limb Difference
• Dignity needs protection: Sexual Assault, Child Abuse Prevention
• The mind needs care too: Stress
• Recovery takes real work: Occupational Therapy
• Care extends beyond people: Earth
• Stories carry all of this forward: National Literature (Philippines)

April is not just about awareness. Awareness alone stays in the head. This month asks for something more. To notice. To understand. To act.
