A Loss That Was Not Lost

What he built was taken down, but what changed him stayed.

Louis Grignion de Montfort was born on January 31, 1673, in Montfort-sur-Meu, France. He became a priest and kept moving from place to place in France.

In Pontchâteau, France, he organized the building of a large Calvary—a hill with crosses to help people remember the Passion of Christ. People came together and built it piece by piece.

It was almost finished.

Then an order came to stop. Authorities grew uneasy with the size of the crowds gathering around the site. Large gatherings at that time could easily be seen as a risk. The work was halted. The site was dismantled. Everything they built was taken down.

He moved on and continued his mission somewhere else.

Some things we build with effort will still be taken down. Not everything has to be saved. Sometimes, we just continue. We don’t stay stuck trying to rebuild the same thing. We move to what is still possible. We keep doing the good in front of us.

Let’s keep learning the saints’ way—day by day.
