The Path Toward Peace

The season moves forward with a second violet candle—its calm light opening the path toward peace.

Second Sunday of Advent • 7 December 2025

The Second Sunday of Advent marks the next step toward Christ’s coming. The readings turn to John the Baptist, who calls people to prepare and to clear the path. His message brings things back into order, opening space for what matters most.

The Advent wreath shows this progression. The second violet candle is lit, carrying the meaning of peace. And while John does not preach about peace directly, his call leads toward it. When the heart is prepared, distractions fall away, and peace finally has room to stay.

This Sunday invites a simple movement: set things in order, keep the essentials in front, and let the season guide you toward Christ with peace.

The Candle That Starts the Season

The Church year begins with a single violet candle—steady light guiding us into Advent.

First Sunday of Advent • 30 November 2025

The First Sunday of Advent marks the start of the Church’s liturgical year. It begins a four-week season that prepares us for Christ’s coming—His birth in Bethlehem, His presence in our daily life, and His return at the end of time.

The Advent wreath

Its circle shows God’s unending love, and the evergreen branches point to life that lasts. The four candles follow a simple pattern: three violet candles for preparation and spiritual focus, and one pink candle for the joy of the third Sunday.

On this first Sunday, the Church lights the first violet candle. It points to a light that is steady, clear, and guiding—Advent starts by calling us to walk with that hope.
